On Sunday, January 11, Rohit Sharma made history by becoming the world's first batsman to hit 650 sixes in international cricket. On the third delivery of the seventh over of the 301-run chase, Rohit, who is starting for Team India in the first ODI against New Zealand at BCA Stadium in Vadodara, hit his 650th six in international cricket.
Rohit, who concluded his Test career with 88 sixes in 67 matches, 205 sixes in 159 T20Is, and 357 sixes in 280 one-day matches, is the player with the most sixes in ODIs, T20Is, and international cricket.

On Sunday, experienced Indian batsman Rohit Sharma made history by surpassing West Indies great Chris Gayle to become the opener with the most sixes in One-Day International cricket. In the first ODI against New Zealand at the Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) Stadium in Vadodara, Rohit accomplished this incredible accomplishment.
Breaking The 650 Barrier
- The Indian captain's double milestone evening included the record. Rohit became the first player in history to score 650 sixes in international cricket (combined across Tests, ODIs, and T20Is) with his second six of the game.
- However, Rohit Sharma was out in the ninth over off a ball from Kyle Jamieson, unable to turn the early start into a significant inning. He smacked two sixes and three fours to score 26 runs off of 29 balls.
- During the South Africa series last year, the Indian sensation had already surpassed Shahid Afridi's record for the most sixes in ODI cricket (357* and counting).
- Last year, Rohit was also in close contact. With one not out, the right-hander scored 650 runs in 14 ODI innings over the same number of games. 121 not out was his personal best. According to the ICC rankings, he is now the top hitter.
Only Behind Chris Gayle!
Former West Indies skipper and legendary opener Chris Gayle is second on the list of batters with the most sixes in international cricket, and Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi takes the third position with 476 sixes in 524 matches played across formats.
