The Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max is already creating a thunder before it officially launches and this time the buzz feels justified. The new Geekbench listing has leaked the most important performance details and if the numbers hold up, Redmi is clearly preparing to shake off the upper-mid-range smartphone market, again.

For anyone tracking the smartphone launches closely, this leak is not just another benchmark screenshot. It gives a clue of MediaTek's next big silicon push, the changing Turbo branding policy of Redmi, and a possible Poco rebrand waiting in the wings for global users.

Let’s break down what we know, and what it really means.

Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max Geekbench Listing Explained

The Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max has reportedly been spotted on Geekbench with the model number 2602BRT18C. According to the listing, the phone itself has Android 16 onboard, and comes with a massive 16GB of RAM. That in itself is an indication that Redmi is aiming at power users and not at the casual upgraders.

The chipset is where things get interesting.

Geekbench reveals an octa-core CPU layout:

  • 1 prime core clocked at 3.73GHz
  • 3 performance cores at 3.30GHz
  • 4 efficiency cores at 2.40GHz

This layout is heavily pointing towards an unreleased MediaTek flagship SoC. Whereas some believe that it will be powered by Dimensity 9400 +, a majority of leaks are now indicating that it will be marketed as the Dimensity 9500s, which MediaTek is expected to introduce on January 15.

Performance scores back up the hype:

  • Single-core: 2,656
  • Multi-core: 8,377

These are serious numbers for a phone that is not even officially announced yet.

Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max Chipset and Performance Angle

If the Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max does release with Dimensity 9500s, then it will be a radical move. MediaTek no longer has to play second fiddle to Qualcomm in this segment.

The listed Mali-G925 Immortalis MC12 GPU implies high performance in gaming and graphics, which probably aims at long gaming sessions without thermal throttling.

This feels like Redmi doubling down on its “performance-first, price-later” philosophy. Raw power has always been a part of the Turbo series and this model appears ready to blur the line between flagship and flagship-killer.

Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max Naming Confusion Is Real

This is where things get messy, and honestly, a bit frustrating.

The same model number spotted on Geekbench was previously linked to a Redmi Turbo 5 Pro during a 3C certification sighting, also confirming 100W fast charging. It is now being referred to as the Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max.

To complicate matters further:

  • Redmi has officially announced a Redmi Turbo 5 Max in China this month.
  • According to the Tipsters, there might be two premium models: Turbo 5 Max and Turbo 5 Pro Max.
  • A different model number (2511FRT34C) is also floating around and this could have been linked to the standard Turbo 5.

This confusion of names would cause confusion to the buyer and Redmi should clear the air soon.

Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max Design and Launch Expectations

According to leaks, Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max may have a refreshed design. The image shown in the renders that have surfaced online depicts a horizontal dual-camera design housed in an oval-shaped camera module, which is completely different from the vertical design used in the Turbo 4 series.

Other expected design elements are listed below:

  • Slim display bezels
  • Centered hole-punch selfie camera
  • Flat frame with premium curvature

As with previous Turbo phones, this device is unlikely to remain China-exclusive. It is being speculated heavily that it could be rebranded globally under the Poco name, possibly as part of the upcoming Poco X8 series.

Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max Looks Serious

The Redmi Turbo 5 Pro Max leak feels different because it ticks several boxes at once, next-generation chipset, aggressive RAM configuration, Android 16 out of the box, and a likely global rebrand. If Redmi prices this right, competitors should be worried.

That said, branding confusion may negatively affect the initial momentum. Power means little if buyers do not have a clue of what they are buying.

For now, all eyes are on January 15. Once MediaTek lifts the curtain on the Dimensity 9500s, the real Turbo story begins.
