Ponniyin Selvan has earned six nominations at the Asian Film Awards, while RRR has been awarded two.

Two Indian films, Ponniyin Selvan 1 and RRR, have been selected for the 16th Asian Film Awards nominations.

On Friday, the 16th Asian Film Awards, to be presented in Hong Kong on March 12, unveiled their nominations. Mani Ratnam's Ponniyin Selvan 1 was nominated in six different categories, among them best film, while SS Rajamouli's RRR earned two nominations, in best visual effects and best sound.

Mani Ratnam's blockbuster Ponniyin Selvan 1, which earned more than ₹500 crore in theaters, has been nominated for six awards – Best Film, Sreekar Prasad for Best Editing, Ravi Varman for Best Cinematography, A.R Rahman for Best Original Music, Eka Lakhani for Best Costume Design, and Thota Tharani for Best Production Design.

Naatu Naatu, a song from the movie, has made it to the Oscars' shortlist in the Music (Original Song) category. This is the third international recognition for Naatu Naatu. Recently, Ram Charan and his wife Upasana flew to Los Angeles to attend the 80th Golden Globe Awards. While RRR is nominated for Best Foreign Film, Naatu Naatu has been nominated for Best Original Song.
