The last date to link PAN and Aadhaar cards is December 31, 2025. From January 1, 2026, the Income Tax Department will declare all PAN cards that are not linked to Aadhaar cards as inoperative.

According to Notification Number 26/2025 issued on April 3, 2025, individuals who were allotted a PAN using their Aadhaar enrollment ID before October 1, 2024, must complete the linking process using their permanent Aadhaar card number by the end of 2025. According to an ET report, PAN cards that are not linked by the deadline will be marked as inactive or inoperative and cannot be used for tax-related or major financial transactions.

The report states that a fee of ₹1,000 will be applicable in cases where the PAN was issued before July 1, 2017, and has not been linked previously.
