The smartphone launch cycle barely pauses and OnePlus seems determined to stay ahead of it. Just months after the OnePlus 15 landed globally, early leaks from China are already painting a bold picture of the OnePlus 16. If these details hold up, this won’t be a safe, incremental upgrade. This looks like the OnePlus swinging hard at the spec ceiling, cameras, display, battery, everything pushed to the extreme.
According to multiple well-known tipsters on Weibo, OnePlus is internally testing hardware that goes far beyond what the OnePlus 15 offers. We’re talking about a 200-megapixel periscope camera, refresh rates crossing 200Hz and a battery that could touch 9,000mAh. On paper, it’s outrageous. And that’s exactly why people are paying attention.

OnePlus 16 camera leak
The biggest talking point around the OnePlus 16 is its camera setup. Tipster Digital Chat Station claims that OnePlus is testing a 200MP periscope-style telephoto camera, which has a significantly larger sensor than the one used in the OnePlus 15.

This is more than the megapixel number itself. A larger sensor, around 1/1.x-inch range, is an improvement in light capture, smoother zoom shots and more usable shots at night. That is where OnePlus has traditionally lagged behind camera-based competitors such as Samsung or Vivo.
There’s also chatter that the OnePlus 16 could share camera hardware with the rumoured Oppo Find N6. If true, the setup may include the following:
- A 200MP periscope telephoto sensor
- Two 50MP cameras for main and ultra-wide duties
- A small multispectral sensor to improve colour accuracy
If OnePlus delivers even 80 percent of this in the final product, it would be the brand’s biggest camera leap in years.
OnePlus 16 display
Another eyebrow-raising leak suggests that the OnePlus 16 is being tested with flat displays capable of refresh rates of greater than 200Hz. That is a jump from the already aggressive 165Hz panel on the OnePlus 15.
Most apps will not benefit much beyond 120Hz, let alone 200Hz. This feels like a spec designed as much for marketing as for users. Still, among gamers and performance lovers, ultra-high refresh rates may allow reducing motion blur and enhancing responsiveness.
It is yet to be determined whether Oneplus ships a 200Hz or even 240Hz display. But the mere fact that it is also being tested, is an indication that OnePlus desires bragging rights again.

OnePlus 16 battery rumour
If one leak deserves real excitement, it’s the battery. According to OnePlus Club, the OnePlus 16 may feature a next-gen “Glacier Battery” with close to 9,000mAh capacity.
For context, the OnePlus 15 already impressed with a 7,300mAh battery that outlasted many pricier rivals. Jumping to 9,000mAh would be massive, potentially multi-day endurance for normal users.
This Glacier Battery tech, developed with CATL, allows higher energy density without turning phones into bricks. OnePlus has already used similar batteries in its Turbo series, so this isn’t pure fantasy.
If this leak is accurate, OnePlus may be quietly pulling ahead of Apple, Samsung and Google in the battery race.

OnePlus 16 performance and launch expectations
Oneplus 16 will also come with the Qualcomm’s next flagship chipset which will likely be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6. That is standard for a 2026 flagship, however, combined with a giant battery and ultra-fast display, it could make for a performance monster.
As for launch timing, current leaks suggest the OnePlus 16 will not arrive before Q4 2026. That leaves plenty of room for specs to change and for hype to grow.

OnePlus 16 looks bold, but caution is healthy
Right now, the OnePlus 16 feels like a numbers-heavy flagship designed to grab headlines. A 200MP periscope camera, 200Hz display and 9,000mAh battery sound incredible. But great phones aren’t built on specs alone.
If OnePlus balances this hardware with strong camera processing, clean software and sensible pricing, the OnePlus 16 could be one of the most talked-about Android phones of its cycle. Until then, enjoy the leaks and keep the skepticism handy.
