The Nissan Gravite is launching in India on January 21, and this is not just another car launch, it’s a make-or-break moment for Nissan’s future in the country. In a market obsessed with space, value and features, Nissan is finally entering the sub-4m MPV segment with a product that feels thoughtfully timed.

Built on the CMF-A+ platform and sharing its DNA with the Renault Triber, the Gravite is Nissan’s first compact MPV for India and only its second MPV overall after the forgotten Evalia. Expected prices start around Rs 6 lakh (ex-showroom), making it one of the most affordable three-row vehicles in the country.

On paper, it ticks all the right boxes. The real question is execution.

Nissan Gravite Design

The Nissan Gravite does not hide its Triber roots, but Nissan has clearly worked to give it its own identity. The front end looks sharper, with a bold grille, connected LED DRLs, a wide light bar, and a more muscular bumper. It feels modern, not budget.

Around the sides, expect new alloy wheels and roof rails, while the rear gets redesigned LED tail-lamps, a sculpted tailgate, and a cleaner bumper layout. The Gravite badge on the tailgate is subtle but confident.

Nissan Gravite Interior

Nissan has not officially revealed the interior yet, but expectations are clear. The Nissan Gravite will follow a 7-seat layout similar to the Triber, with a removable third row for added boot space, still one of the smartest ideas in this segment.

Expected interior highlights are listed below:

  • Digital-analogue instrument cluster
  • Large touchscreen infotainment system
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Rear AC vents
  • Cooled glove box

This won’t be a luxury cabin, and that’s fine. Buyers here want space, usability, and features that work every day, not gimmicks.

Nissan Gravite Engine Options

Under the hood, the Nissan Gravite is expected to use a 1.0-litre, three-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine producing around 71–72 bhp and 96 Nm of torque. Transmission options include a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.

A dealer-level CNG option is also expected, which could be a big win for fleet buyers and budget-conscious families.

The engine is adequate, not exciting. In a segment where practicality matters more than performance, Nissan is clearly playing safe. A turbo-petrol option would have added spice, but that may come later.

Nissan Gravite Safety Features

This is where the Nissan Gravite could genuinely surprise people. Expected safety features include the following:

  • Six airbags
  • ABS with EBD
  • Electronic Stability Program (ESP)
  • Hill-start assist
  • Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)
  • Rear parking camera and sensors
  • ISOFIX child seat mounts

For a budget MPV, that’s a strong safety package and something Indian buyers should demand more often.

Nissan Gravite Price & Positioning

The Nissan Gravite is expected to be priced between Rs 6 lakh and Rs 9 lakh (ex-showroom). That puts it directly against the Renault Triber, while undercutting larger MPVs like the Ertiga, XL6 and Carens by a big margin.

Production will take place at Nissan’s Chennai facility, with India also serving as an export hub. This is not a short-term experiment, it is a long-term bet.

A Sensible Start, but Not a Showstopper

The Nissan Gravite is not flashy, fast, or revolutionary, and that’s exactly why it might work. It is affordable, practical, feature-loaded and built for real Indian families.

If Nissan prices it right and backs it with better dealer support, the Gravite could quietly become one of 2026’s most sensible car launches. And sometimes sensible is exactly what the market needs.
