Tata Motors has done something rare today, it did not just update the Punch, it repositioned it. With the launch of the New Tata Punch, the brand has sent a clear message to rivals: this micro SUV is no longer playing safe.

Starting at Rs 5.59 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Punch has increased power, technology and an aura that it has earned and not marketed.

This is not a cosmetic nip-tuck. It is a full-blown glow-up with muscle.

New Tata Punch Powertrains

The most attention-grabbing feature is clearly the turbo-petrol engine. For the first time, the Punch gets a 1.2-litre turbo-petrol producing 118bhp and 170Nm,which makes it the most powerful car in its category. Combined with a 6-speed manual, Tata is obviously chasing enthusiasts who always felt the Punch deserved more punch.

Powertrain options now include the following:

  • 1.2L NA petrol: 86.5bhp, 5MT/AMT
  • 1.2L CNG: 72bhp with MT and AMT (yes, AMT on CNG is a big deal)
  • 1.2L Turbo petrol: 118bhp, 6MT only

The CNG + AMT combo is a quiet masterstroke. For city dwellers struggling with fuel prices and traffic, this feature could change their buying decisions overnight.

New Tata Punch Variants

Tata is offering the facelift in eight trims, Smart, Pure, Pure+, Pure+ S, Adventure, Adventure S, Accomplished, and Accomplished+ S. The spread is wide but logical, ensuring buyers don’t feel forced into paying for engines or gearboxes they don’t want.

Turbo variants are smartly restricted to higher trims, keeping costs in check while maintaining exclusivity.

Bookings are open today, and deliveries will follow shortly.

New Tata Punch Design

The old Punch looked sturdy but was awkward. The facelift has fixed that flaw.

The new front fascia gets a slimmer grille, eyebrow-style LED DRLs that double as indicators, and squared-off projector LED headlamps. The connected  LED tail-lamps attached to the rear of the car provide it with a modern signature.

Small details matter:

  • Hidden rear door handles
  • New dual-tone alloys
  • Blacked-out pillars for a floating roof effect

The Punch still looks compact, but now it looks confident, not confused.

New Tata Punch Interior & Features

Inside, Tata has borrowed heavily from the Punch EV and that is a compliment.

Highlights include the following:

  • 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto & Apple CarPlay
  • 7-inch digital driver display
  • 8-speaker sound system
  • Auto AC with rear vents
  • Wireless charger and single-pane sunroof

The touch-based AC controls may divide opinions, but overall, the cabin finally feels premium enough to justify the price climb.

New Tata Punch Safety: The Truck Crash Video Says It All

Tata did not just claim safety, but they proved it.

New Tata Punch

In a recently released crash test video, the New Tata Punch was crashed into a Tata truck head-on at 50km/h. Airbags were deployed immediately, the cabin remained intact, doors opened post-impact, and all dummies were safeguarded. Watch the video here.

The result? A confirmed 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.

Six airbags are standard, along with ESC, hill-hold assist, TPMS, ISOFIX mounts, and a 360-degree camera on higher trims. This is safety done with conviction, not compromise.

New Tata Punch Price & Rivals

Prices are between Rs 5.59 lakh to Rs 10.54 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). It does venture into the territory of the premium, but competitors such as the Ignis, Exter, and C3 suddenly feel under-equipped.

New Tata Punch is not only refreshed, but also re-defined. More power, smarter technology, unmatched safety, and real-world efficiency make it the new standard in the micro SUV segment in India.
