There are many sports that are played all over the world, but only a few of them gain a special position in everyone’s heart. There are many international tournaments played, and this article will sum up some of the most famous and popular games.

The list of some of the major sports events of the world is as follows:

1. FIFA World Cup:

The global sporting event, commonly known as the Football World Cup, is organized every four years by the Federation International de Football Association (FIFA).

The Olympics is a prominent international multi-sport event wherein nearly all countries across the globe participate in various sports.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) organizes an annual continental club football competition, formerly known as the European Champion Clubs' Cup or European Cup, beginning in 1955.

The ICC Cricket World Cup, organized by the International Cricket Council, is a global cricket tournament featuring men's one-day 50 overs cricket matches.

• To participate in this tournament held every four years (with the T20 held biennially), teams must go through preliminary qualification rounds.
• This event is ranked as the fourth-most viewed international sporting event.
• The inaugural Cricket World Cup was held in 1975 in England, followed by the first T20 Cricket World Cup in 2007 in South Africa. As of 2020, Australia'sCricketTeam has won this tournament a record five times in the twelve tournaments held thus far.

5. Wimbledon Tennis:

Wimbledon is globally recognized as one of the most prestigious sporting events, having the honor of being the oldest tennis championship in the world.

Formula One racing, also referred to as F1 racing, represents the highest level of international professional auto racing.

7. National Basketball Association (NBA):

The NBA is widely recognized as a prominent men's professional basketball league in North America and holds an esteemed position as an active member of the USA Basketball Organization, which serves as the governing body for basketball within the United States.

The International Hockey Federation (FIH), the governing body for field and indoor hockey, hosts a quadrennial field hockey competition known as the World Cup.

The Asiad, also referred to as the Asian Games, is a renowned multi-sport event held on the Asian continent every four years.

The Commonwealth Games is a highly regarded international multi-sport competition in which athletes from the Commonwealth of Nations participate in various sports.
