Kerala Name Change Demand : Kerala Assembely Passes Resolution To Change State Name, Seeks Centre' Approval

The Kerala Assembly collectively passed a second resolution on Monday asking the Middle to authoritatively have an impact on the state's name to 'Keralam', almost a year after it consistently passed a comparative goal before the Middle returned it for revisions.

Union Government To Take Final Decision Of Name change Of Kerala

The Union government will be asked to approve the resolution. Following the Kerala government's request for "immediate steps" to change the state's name, the Union Home Ministry reviewed the previous resolution in August of that year and made some technical suggestions.

Individuals from both the decision LDF and the resistance UDF upheld the goal. N Shamsudeen, a legislator for the UDF, made a few changes that the government didn't like. The resolution was then unanimously adopted by the assembly, as announced by Speaker A. N. Shamseer.

'Demand Of Name Change Is High In Speakers'

CM Vijayan stated while presenting the resolution that the state has been referred to as "Keralam" in Malayalam and that Malayalam speakers' demand for a united Keralahas been strong since the national freedom struggle.

However, Kerela is the name given to our state in the First Schedule of the Constitution. According to a statement Vijayan was quoted as saying by PTI, "This Assembly requests the Centre to take immediate steps to amend it as "Keralam" under Article 3 of the Constitution and have it renamed as "Keralam" in all the languages mentioned in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution."

Name Change Scenario Of India

Since India's independence, more than a hundred cities and several states have changed their names. Uttaranchal became Uttarakhand in 2007, respecting the Uttarakhand Andolan development that prompted the state's division from Uttar Pradesh in 2000.
