Movie Review of Jatadhara:
Sonakshi Sinha and Sudheer Babu will star in the mythological supernatural thriller "Jaatadhar." This Telugu film marks Sonakshi's debut. The film also stars Sudheer Babu, Divya Khosla, and Shilpa Shirodkar. As we all know, this film will be a mythological supernatural thriller, but it will also have a scientific twist. This film will be a blend of scientific logic and a mythological supernatural thriller. Therefore, audiences should read the reviews before watching this film so they don't feel like they've wasted their time and money.
As interesting as the film's story sounds when you hear or read it, it becomes dull once it hits the screen. It feels like the team failed to translate a great written story into a visual format. The opening sequence kicks off with a 5-minute AI-generated scene that tries to set up the film's background, but frankly, it drains half the audience's excitement right away. With a huge budget of ₹70 crore, the visuals, which look like what you can find for free on Instagram Reels today, are disappointing.
The editing is so choppy that it's hard to follow which scene is which and why. One moment feels different, and then the next strangely shifts—scenes bounce around like a poorly edited video. Actor Sudheer Babu gives his all throughout the film. His dedication shows in his performance, appearance, and fitness. But unfortunately, the weight of the entire film seems to rest entirely on him.
In contrast, Divya Khosla delivers her lines so slowly that even a tortoise seems fast, and her overacting in every scene takes away from the story's impact. Sonakshi Sinha doesn't have much to do; her role is mostly limited to shouting. Shilpa Shirodkar raises expectations with good expressions, but her limited screen time means she doesn't leave a mark.
The supporting cast—Ravi Prakash, Indira Krishna, and Rajiv Kanakala—perform well. Subhalekha Sudhakar, playing the Pandit, delivers some strong lines that provide a brief relief in the film.
The main issue lies in the screenwriting and direction. The film lacks a clear vision. Abhishek Jaiswal and Venkat Kalyan seem to have created separate segments that were stitched together at the end. The story strays from its original theme. Neither the backstory is effective, nor does the climax feel impactful.
The music is decent at times but can be overwhelmingly loud and poorly timed, overshadowing the emotion of the scenes. Yes, Sudheer Babu's Shiva Tandava in the climax truly ignites the screen—it’s the film’s most powerful and memorable moment. Sonakshi’s appearance is striking, but her acting doesn’t leave much of an impression.
Honestly, the film has many flaws. Watching it feels tedious. If you're interested in Sudheer Babu’s hard work, the Shiva Tandava sequence, or Sonakshi's new look, give it a try. Otherwise, this film fails to meet any expectations.
