In two separate terror attacks on Saturday in the Shopian and Anantnag districts of Jammu and Kashmir, a tourist couple from Jaipur and a former BJP sarpanch were injured.
Twin Terror Attacks Shakes Jammu and Kashmir
Officials said that in the first incident, the terrorists shot and killed a former BJP sarpanch named Aijaz Sheikh in the Hirpora area of Shopian around 10.30 p.m. He later died at a hospital from his injuries.
In another incident on Saturday, two people from Jaipur were injured after terrorists opened fire at a tourist camp in UT’s Anantnag district.
Search Operations Began To Find The Attackers
According to the officials, searches for the perpetrators have begun and areas in Anantnag and Shopian have been cordoned off.
The two attacks occur at the same time that campaigning for the Anantnag-Rajouri seat’s parliamentary elections in Jammu and Kashmir is taking place. Surveying in Baramulla will be hung on May 20 in the fifth round of surveys.
Several J&K Ministers Condemns The Act
Previous Cheif Minister and PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, who is challenging the Lok Sabha decisions from the Anantnag-Rajouri seat, said on X, “While we censure the assault in Pahalgam today that brought about wounds to two travelers followed by one more assault on a (previous) sarpanch in Hirpora, Shopian – the planning of these assaults given that the south political race was deferred with practically no explanation is a reason for concern.
“We strongly condemn the killing of ex-sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh in Hirpora, Shopian, South Kashmir, by terrorists today,” the BJP stated in a statement.
