There have been many upheavals in India's airline industry over the past few months. One of the major airlines in India, Indigo , has been impacted primarily due to its many operational challenges, mostly concerning their flights. 

Many thousands of passengers may have been inconvenienced by the cancellations and IndiGo Flight delays affecting all IndiGo flights scheduled during November 2025, as well as for many more months to come, When Flight delays and cancellations occurred because of OVF operations, every IndiGo passenger would be affected by at least one of the operational events resulting in cancellations or delayed service.

The new Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which came into effect on November 1st, 2025, caused the majority of delays experienced by IndiGo flights, as pilot and cabin crew work hours and rest periods have been more strictly defined under these regulations.

As a result, IndiGo's crew members were late reporting to the airport for numerous flights, forcing IndiGo to cancel many flights. The combination of increasing operational demands, issues with roster management, pre-existing crew shortages and increasing pressures on operational resources resulted in a severe impact on the airline's network.

Adding to these situations were technical issues, seasonal weather patterns, runway congestion, and delays in airport operations.

Passengers Suffered the Most

Passengers faced several serious problems due to flight delays and frequent cancellations.

People were stranded at the airport for 3-8 hours, and often they didn't even receive timely notifications.

Many passengers reported that:

  • Flight gates were changed repeatedly
  • The schedule was being updated every hour
  • Waiting with children and the elderly was extremely difficult
  • Some passengers missed business meetings, medical appointments, and even weddings

On social media, passengers constantly complained that the airline's communication was very poor and they weren't even told when their flight would depart.

Passengers Adopted Different Approaches

As the flight crisis escalated, passengers tried to find solutions in their own ways. 

  • Some people booked tickets on other airlines immediately.
  • Many passengers left the airport to travel by train or bus.
  • Some passengers canceled their trips altogether.
  • Passengers demanded compensation and refunds on social media.

Additional CISF personnel had to be deployed at airports to manage the situation. Water, seating, and other facilities were also increased for those waiting.

IndiGo issued a public statement apologizing and stating that the airline was doing everything possible to normalize the situation.

Wedding Plans Disrupted, Couple Attends Reception Online

Despite the multitude of inconveniences faced by air travelers associated with the national aviation emergency, a widely publicized story throughout the country relates to a newlywed couple who took their honeymoon from Bhubaneswar to Hubli in India. The couple had to miss their wedding reception due to numerous cancellations, missed connections, and then no-shows on IndiGo flights.

The couple missed the opportunity to be at the wedding reception in Hubli with family and friends and, rather than being present, had to attend via video call from 1,000 kilometers away. Their family and friends gathered in the reception hall to send their blessings through the large video screen set up so the couple could see and communicate with them.

This particular example of the impact of a flight cancellation may be representative of IndiGo's flight delays affecting many other passengers traveling for similar or other important events.

IndiGo's Response and Future Expectations

Due to changes to IndiGo’s operations due to the new regulations issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), IndiGo believes that quality of operation is currently being affected and has also disrupted airline passenger schedules. IndiGo is currently making every effort to stabilize crew information as quickly as possible and has implemented numerous strategic initiatives to restore IndiGo's normal passenger service levels.

One reason why IndiGo Flight Delays are occurring is the interaction of multiple operational conditions/variables to create the overall effect of Flight Delays. However, through continued focus and improvement on the operational systems, IndiGo will again be able to offer a seamless travel experience for its passengers.

For this reason, it is highly recommended that all passengers verify their flight status (via the IndiGo Mobile Application) as soon as possible prior to their planned travel within the next week.
