This T20 series will be India's last T20 series before the World Cup, and both players will participate to ensure they are fully prepared for the tournament.

Shreyas Iyer's return expected

Shreyas Iyer

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) secretary Unmesh Khanvilkar said that they will discuss Shreyas Iyer's availability. Discussions will be held on whether Iyer can play in the upcoming matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Iyer suffered a serious spleen injury during the Sydney ODI against Australia in October. He has been undergoing a fitness assessment at the BCCI's 'Centre of Excellence' (CoE) in Bengaluru since December 25.

Recently, Iyer has started light gym training and net practice. He batted for about 30-34 minutes in the nets at the CCI. If he gets clearance from the CoE, Iyer can play for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy matches on January 3 and 6.

If Iyer recovers quickly, his return to the ODIteam against New Zealand will be a big boost for the team. This will help India in their preparations for the 2027 World Cup.
