PPO number is a unique number that is sent through a letter by EPFO to every retiring employee. It serves as a point of reference to the Central Point Accounting Office (CPAO). It is needed to apply for a pension and to submit his/her life certificate every year.

So, the PPO number is very important for every person who has retired or is on the edge of retirement.

Pensioners must check that the bank has successfully recorded their PPO number in the passbook. Sometimes, banks do not update the PPO, which leads to unnecessary delays in receiving the pension.

Transferring the PF account from one bank to another could be difficult if the pensioner forgot his number. PPO number can also help in immediate grievance redressal in EPFO and checking the pension status.
