Millions of Gmail users will be greatly relieved by a significant change that Google is getting ready for. Up until now, the only way for a user to modify or change their Gmail address was to close their previous account and open a new one. However, that inconvenience is going to end soon.
Users will soon be able to modify their @gmail.com email address without losing access to their Google account, according to a recent update to the Mountain View-based tech giant Google's support page.
With this new feature, what will be different?

Users will be able to modify the first portion of their Gmail address—that is, the name before @gmail.com—thanks to this modification. Above all, their Google account won't change. Contacts, Google Drive files, old emails, Google Photos, purchases, and subscriptions will all be safe as a result.
Up until now, only people who used a third-party email address to create their Google account could use this feature. However, people whose accounts were directly connected to Gmail were unable to do so. This feature is currently being implemented gradually, according to a 9to5Google report.
The previous Gmail account will continue to function
When a user selects a new Gmail address, their previous address will serve as an alias, according to Google's support page. This implies that emails sent to the previous address will still show up in the inbox. The user will also be able to use their old or new Gmail address to access their Google account.

Gmail, Drive, YouTube, Google Maps, and all other Google services won't be impacted by this change.
How many times is it possible to modify a Gmail address?
With this feature, Googlehas also imposed some restrictions.
Users will have the ability to:
- Only once every twelve months should they update their Gmail address.
- Changed their address three times in total.
This implies that an account may be linked to up to four Gmail addresses. Additionally, Google has made it clear that the previous Gmail address will not be shared with anyone else and will always be linked to the same account. Additional settings may need to be adjusted by certain users.
But Google has also cautioned that using the new Gmail address may cause problems for certain services. Chromebook users, Google sign-in users, and remote desktop users may need to take extra precautions. Before changing their Gmail address, users are advised by the company to make a backup of their data because some app settings may be reset. Google claims that it might be like logging into a new device.
All things considered, Gmail users will benefit greatly from this update, particularly those who have been dissatisfied with their Gmail address for years but have been reluctant to switch accounts. Gmail will become even more user-friendly and adaptable once this feature is made available to all users.
