On Saturday evening, speculation arose in the media regarding Team India's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, with several reports suggesting he might be removed. Some reports even named former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman as a potential replacement. NDTV had reported a day earlier that the BCCI and other official sources had denied the veracity of these reports. Now, the BCCI has officially responded, dismissing these reports as mere speculation. This also confirms the accuracy of NDTV's previous report.

Reports of Gambhir's departure are just speculation

BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia completely dismissed the reports of Gautam Gambhir's departure and VVS Laxman becoming the new coach of the Indian Test team, calling them completely false and baseless. BCCIsecretary Devjit Saikia said, "This is completely false news and mere speculation. Some very reputable media outlets are also publishing this news, but there is no truth to it. The BCCI completely denies it, and no such steps have been taken. It is completely fabricated and has no factual basis."

The year 2025 has certainly been a controversial one for Team India and Gautam Gambhir. However, it is also true that this year Team India reached the finals of the ICC Champions Trophy and the Asia Cup and maintained its dominance in white-ball cricket. But some crucial losses in Test matches have raised questions about the team's head coach, Gautam Gambhir, and the chief selector.

Amidst the speculation about Gambhir's departure, NDTV, citing sources, had reported that Gambhir would not be leaving until the 2027 World Cup. A senior BCCI official had told NDTV a day earlier, "We have not spoken to VVS Laxman either officially or unofficially." He also added, "The BCCI has complete faith in Gautam Gambhir, and there has been no discussion about this."

Now, there are also rumors circulating about split coaching for Team India, which would mean a separate coach for the Test team. In Indian cricket, you never know what the next decision will be. Who would have thought that vice-captain Shubman Gill could be dropped from the World Cup squad before the T20 World Cup? But for now, BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia has come forward and stated on camera to quell the rumors and speculations.

Saikia had expressed his displeasure.

Rajeev Shukla had earlier clarified Saikia's stance regarding Gambhir. Speaking to news agency ANI, he said, "This news is completely false. It is entirely based on speculation. Some well-known news channels are also showing it. There is no truth to it. The BCCI has categorically denied it. Whatever people may think, the BCCI has not taken any such step. This is someone's fabricated story, there is no truth to it, and all I can say is that this is factually incorrect and baseless news."
