Gautam Gambhir Appointed as Team India's New Head Coach, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah Confirms

On Tuesday, Gautam Gambhir officially took over as India's head coach. After winning the Twenty20 World Cup 2024, Dravid said his final goodbyes to Rohit Sharma and the Indian team. The former Indian head coach had already made it clear prior to the T20 World Cup that he would not sign a contract extension after the recent ICC event.

BCCI Secretary Confirms Gautam Gambhir's as Head Coach

On X,  BCCI secretary Jay Shah wrote a special note to Gambhir to confirm his appointment as head coach at the Indian camp. The BCCI secretary stated that Gambhir is the best person to lead Indian cricket in the future. I am delighted to announce Mr. @GautamGambhir's appointment as the Indian Cricket Team's new head coach. Gautam has closely observed the rapid evolution of contemporary cricket, as stated by Shah.

Sri Lanka Tour Will Be Gambhir's First Assignment

Prior, BCCI secretary Shah affirmed that India will have another lead trainer from the white-ball series against Sri Lanka this month. " Soon, appointments for coaches and selectors will be made. After conducting interviews and shortlisting two candidates, CAC will adhere to their decision once they reach Mumbai. Shah mentioned that VVS Laxman will travel to Zimbabwe, but a new coach will join from the Sri Lanka series.

Who Will Be India's New Assistant Coach?

According to the most recent developments,Gautam Gambhirhas selected a former Mumbai Indians (MI) star as Team India's assistant coach. As per the Bengali paper Aajkaal, Gambhir maintains that KKR's Abhishek Nayar should turn into India's associate mentor in the wake of succeeding Dravid for the top work. Nayar assisted Gambhir at KKR during his IPL 2024 comeback season.

Gambhir's first international stint as head coach will be here. It is interesting to note that prior to accepting the high-profile position at Team India, Gambhir had not yet gained coaching experience in any competitions. During the 2024 IPL, the two-time World Cup champion coached KKR. Last season, Gambhirleft Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) as their coach to join KKR.

The 42-year-old has represented India in 58 Test matches, 147 ODI matches, and 37 T20I matches. The captain, who won the IPL twice, played for Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals in the lucrative league.
