To help Subscribers and Pensioners, The Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) is rolling out several large-scale updates to improve the overall experience of millions of subscribers and pensioners. The Reforms will apply whether you are a retiring employee, are currently contributing to EPFO, or have a pension. These updates will affect the way you interact with your Employees’ Provident Fund Organization account including withdrawing funds and updating your Member Profile. Let’s take a closer look at this final update from Employees’ Provident Fund Organization.

(One of the most welcome updates from Employees’ Provident Fund Organization is that pensioners can now submit their Digital Life Certificates (DLC) from home using Facial Authentication Technology (FAT). Previously, this process required manually visiting and uploading, which used to be difficult for elderly people. With facial recognition, the entire process has become faster, more secure, and completely digital, eliminating the need for physical visits. This update is especially helpful for senior citizens and pensioners living far from EPFO offices, making the system more accessible and convenient.)
Faster EPFO Claims and Seamless PF Transfers
EPFO is shortening the time required to process requests for refunds by streamlining its digital systems and eliminating unnecessary delays. The new system will enable employees to receive approval for their claims much quicker than previously and will reduce the number of requests that require employer verification before processing transfers. In addition, these changes will help reduce the overall amount of paperwork required for withdrawals and transfers of the PF balance.
Because of the changes outlined here, processing withdrawal and transfer requests will continue to happen at a much faster pace than they had previously been able to. In the past, many members waiting for their employers to approve transfers experienced extended waiting periods before they could complete these transactions; however, with the recent changes made to the PF transfer process, it is becoming easier and more seamless for employees who have changed jobs and/or employees nearing retirement to maintain interruptions in continued contributions.
Withdrawal Rule Updates

The Employees' Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) has made it easier for members to access EPF (Employees' Provident Fund) benefits by changing the rules for both partial withdrawals and withdrawals of your entire balance(s). Members now have the ability to obtain up to 100% of their total balance under specific types of circumstances, in addition to the increased withdrawal limitations for certain types of education and marriage-related expenses (i.e., up to INR 50,000 for higher education and INR 75,000 for weddings).
The EPFO will be releasing additional enhancements to the withdrawal experience for members that will include, among other things, instant access to fund balances (up to 75% via ATM or UPI) within the very near future. The new features will allow members to access much-needed funds associated with events that occur during an individual's life (e.g., education, weddings, medical emergencies) and will increase and enhance the responsiveness of the Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) to the various situations that arise in an employee's life.
EPFO Profile Updates and Technical Upgrades
The EPFO is enhancing its Unified Member Portal and making it easier for members to utilize. Members can now electronically update their personal information through their portals, and employers can electronically upload their profile changes, providing improved accuracy and up-to-date profiles for all members. With this change, there will also be less potential for human error in the updating of records and continued improvement will add to the integrity of EPF accounts.
While the ongoing upgrades in the EPFO systems and the processing backlogs have resulted in some users experiencing delays in receiving their temporary passbook updates for contributions made in the latter part of (particularly September and October), the EPFO has stated that these issues are expected to be resolved in the near future, at which point normal services and faster updates will resume to the same level as normal EPFO services.
Clearer EPFO EDLI Death Claim Settlement Rules

According to a significant circular issued on 17 December 2025 by EPFO, the rules governing Employee Deposit-Linked Insurance death claims have been amended due to a number of instances where employees' families were wrongly denied benefits or had their claims partially settled due to "breaks" in employment. The latest circular clarifies that EPFO has officially stated that weekends, national public holidays, gazette holidays, state public holidays and restricted holidays do not constitute breaks in employment when there are no working days between jobs. This means that families of employees who are eligible for EDLI coverage will not be denied payments as a result of not working during the time between jobs. Additionally, the death claim process has been simplified by eliminating the need to provide a guardianship certificate for minors. Therefore, many claims can now be settled much quicker (within 15-30 days) than was previously possible.
What EPFO Members Should Do?
If you would like to keep yourself updated on the latest developments taking place in the EPFO, you need to frequently visit the official website of the EPFO, follow the EPFO on its authentic social media handles such as Facebook, Instagram, X, and YouTube, and also monitor the authentic portals such as the Unity Member Portal. In order to keep your profile updated, you need to ensure that your personal details are updated, your Aadhar and PAN are mapped, and your latest contributions are updated in your passbook. This would save your precious time, which takes place when you apply for the claim or transfer of the PF.
Why Do These EPFO Updates Matter?

All these EPFO notifications have further increased the convenience and usability of the EPFO services for everyone. For seniors, online life certificates help senior citizens cut down on traveling and paperwork, and easier processing means that pension approvals happen quickly. For employees, PF transactions occur with ease when they switch to new employers, and they get more convenient access to part withdrawals in emergencies. For the family of the deceased EPFO member, justified treatment is available under EDLI provisions along with quick claim settlements and less red tape to deal with.
A More Accessible and Efficient EPFO
The most recent EPFO update has numerous improvements from digital certificates and online withdrawals to the clarification of new death claim rules, and a more powerful member profile system. With EPFO’s growing Digital Infrastructure (DIY) members can expect to have an easier, quicker and a better overall experience as their digital infrastructure improves.
