Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is the festival of the victory of good over evil. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the bright fortnight of the month of Ashwin and concludes the sacred nine days of Navratri.

  • Spiritual Message: This day commemorates two great stories – Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and Goddess Durga's victory over Mahishasura. Both stories teach us that ultimately, truth and righteousness prevail.
  • A Simple Ritual: Place a fresh flower at the entrance of your home every morning at sunrise and begin the day with this resolution – Today I am walking on the path of victory.

  • Special Vijay Muhurta: 2:10 pm to 2:58 pm (October 2)

It is believed that a small act performed during Vijay Muhurta is as effective as a hundred acts performed during normal times. A simple ritual: Light a lamp facing east during Vijay Muhurta and chant the mantra "Om Vijayaya Namah" nine times.

Dussehra Weapon Worship Method

  • Place all weapons in one place and clean them.
  • Sprinkle Ganga water on the weapons. Then apply a tilak of kumkum and turmeric.
  • Worship the weapons by offering flowers, rice, and Shami leaves.
  • During this time, you should chant the mantra “Shastra Devta Poojanam, Raksha Karta Poojanam”.
  • The mantra of the Shami tree is also chanted on this day, "Shami Shami Mahashakti, destroyer of all sorrows." Arjunasya priyam vrikshaam shami vrikshaam namamyaham.”
  • At the time of Shastra Puja, chant the mantra of Goddess Aparajita, Om Aparajitaayai Namah. By the grace of Goddess Aparajita, you will always remain victorious.
