Ekadashi Fast
The eleventh day of the lunar cycle is known as Ekadashi, and the word Prabodhini means "awakening." It is thought that Lord Vishnu awakens on this day to bless his followers after spending the monsoon months in meditative sleep. Consequently, the day is observed with a great deal of joy and reverence, particularly among Vaishnavite adherents. Another name for the day is Dev Uthani Ekadashi, which represents the gods' awakening. Hindu scriptures state that Lord Vishnu awakens from his sleep on this day, and that his devotees also begin their spiritual awakening process.Prabodhini Ekadashi Fast Rituals
The fast (or vrat) observed by devotees is one of the main features of Dev Uthani Ekadashi. On the day before Ekadashi, the fast usually begins at sunset and lasts until the next morning. A crucial component of the observance is the Parana or breaking of the fast, but it needs to be done at the appropriate moment. Though it must be finished by Dwadashi Tithi (the twelfth lunar day), the Parana is customarily performed after sunrise on the day after Ekadashi.Ekadashi Meaning and Significance
