The rainy season may give relief from the heat, but along with this, the risk of many types of diseases and infections also increases significantly in this season. During this time, along with water-borne diseases, diseases caused by mosquitoes also increase significantly. Cases of dengue, malaria etc. increase rapidly in the rainy season. In this sequence, a sudden increase in dengue cases is being seen in Bengaluru for the last few days.

Also know why cases of this serious disease increase in this season-

Why do dengue cases increase in the rainy season?

Dengue

Cases of mosquito-borne diseases start increasing rapidly in the rainy season. This is because during the rainy season, due to water accumulation and moisture in the atmosphere, it is easy for mosquitoes to breed, which increases their number. According to a report by the World Health Organization (WHO), about half of the world's population is at risk of dengue and an estimated 100-400 million infections occur every year. In such a situation, do the following things to prevent it-

Do these things in dengue-

  1. Wear protective clothing- To avoid dengue, it is important that you protect yourself from mosquito bites. For this, try to cover yourself by wearing long-sleeved shirts, full pants and socks to avoid mosquito bites.
  2. Maintain cleanliness- To keep yourself and your home away from mosquitoes, clean regularly around your house and do not allow water to accumulate anywhere, as this water can become a breeding ground for dengue-spreading mosquitoes.
  3. Use mosquito repellent cream- Use an effective mosquito repellent cream when going out, especially in the morning and evening, when mosquitoes are at their peak.
  4. Consult a doctor immediately- If you or any other member of your family is experiencing symptoms like high fever, severe headache, joint/muscle pain or skin rash, contact a doctor immediately.

What not to do-

Dengue

  1. Do not ignore platelet count- A drop in a person's platelet level is often seen when dengue occurs. In such a situation, do not ignore any change in your platelet count.
  2. Medicine- Avoid taking over-the-counter medicine and self-medication without consulting a doctor in case of any kind of problem. Taking medicine without expert advice can worsen dengue symptoms.
  3. Avoid taking aspirin- Avoid taking aspirin or ibuprofen to relieve fever or pain, as these medicines can cause bleeding and other serious risks in dengue patients.
  4. Stay away from mosquito breeding areas- Stay away from places where there are a lot of mosquitoes or where there is waterlogging. Spending time in such a place increases the risk of coming in contact with mosquitoes that spread.
