The Mahayuti alliance, led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), performed admirably in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections on Thursday, January 15. The alliance appears to have won handily. The Thackerays, who ruled India's wealthiest civic body for almost thirty years, were defeated by the BJP and Shiv Sena of Eknath Shinde.

It is important to remember that even the reunification of the Thackeray cousins was unable to halt the BJP-led saffron wave, as the Mahayuti is now expected to win the BMC.

Additionally, the general Maharashtracivic body elections tell the same tale.In 25 of the 29 municipal corporations, including Mumbai, the Mahayuti is expected to win power.

According to news agency PTI, the State Election Commission is expected to formally announce the results later tonight.

What Led To Opposition's Bad Performance?

  • The Shiv Sena side, led by Uddhav Thackeray, surprised everyone by briefly narrowing the margin, but the BJP alliance quickly recovered. At first, the Mahayuti was expected to secure a strong majority.
  • The Mahayuti alliance'soutstanding success is attributed to a number of factors, including divisions within the opposition alliance Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), multi-cornered fights, and the BJP adversaries' lack of a solid plan.
  • TV news channels reported on Friday night that the BJP was leading in 90 of the 227 seats in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), followed by Shiv Sena (28), Shiv Sena-UBT (57), MNS (9), Congress (15), NCP (3), and others (8).

How BJP-Shiv Sena Beat MNS-Shiv Sena(UBT)

While the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), led by Uddhav and Raj Thackeray, respectively, had a pre-election agreement, the BJP ran in the January 15 elections as an alliance with the Shiv Sena under deputy chief minister Eknath Shinde.

At the state level, the Congress is affiliated with the Prakash Ambedkar-led Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi (VBA) and Rashtriya Samaj Paksh (RSP), as well as the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), Shiv Sena (UBT), and NCP (SP).

AIMIM Performs Well In Elections

The Asaduddin Owaisi-led team also performed admirably, making significant progress, especially in wards where Muslims predominate.According to TV reports at 8 p.m., the AIMIM was ahead in 94 wards.

With 33 seats in Sambhajinagar, 15 in Amravati, 20 in Malegaon, 14 in Nanded Waghala, 10 in Dhule, and 2 in Jalna, the Owaisi-led party was in the lead. Since the Congress is facing a collapse of its urban base in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections, AIMIM is actually one of the major parties that is cutting into the party's traditional support base.
