Bhopal Gas Tragedy: The Supreme Court has rejected the Center's petition regarding additional compensation for Bhopal gas tragedy victims. In the decision, a bench of five judges headed by Justice Sachin Kishan Kaul rejected the plea appealed by the Center.
The SC's decision of rejecting the Center's plea was based on a few facts- the Center should have stood up with the Bhopal Gas Tragedy victims earlier when the incident took place. The judges also recommended the Center use Rs 50 Lakh crore provided by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for compensating pending claims.
Bhopal Gas Tragedy: Rs 7844 Crore Amount Demanded
The Center first appealed a plea for additional compensation for the victims of the gas tragedy in 2010. The SC didn't take any action on it as according to the past agreement between Union Carbide and the past government, the compensation for the victims was already defined. Now, SC doesn't want to make any further interference on this matter.
