A major decision regarding the central contracts of Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma could be taken at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Annual General Meeting (AGM) on December 22. Given the current circumstances, a significant change in Kohli and Rohit's salaries is possible. The future of both Indian superstars, as well as changes to contracts for women cricketers in domestic cricket, will also be discussed.

Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma Contracts Could Change

Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma have now retired from Test and T20I cricket. Both senior players are now only part of the Indian team in ODI cricket. Therefore, a discussion on changes to their central contract categories is inevitable. According to BCCI sources, the contract structure may be revised considering the players' availability and form. It will be interesting to see whether both experienced players are retained in the A+ category or if their categories are changed.

Gill Could Move to Top Category (A+)

The 31st AGM of the Apex Council will be held online, where a decision on Kohli and Rohit's contracts is expected. Both retired from Test and T20 International cricket last year and now only play the ODI format. Therefore, India's Test and ODI captain Shubman Gill could be placed in the 'A+' category along with senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.

Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma Salaries Could Decrease by Two Crores

It remains to be seen whether the BCCI will retain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who have retired from the T20 and Test formats, in the A+ grade in the new central contracts. If Kohli and Rohit are placed in the A category, their salaries will decrease by two crores. Currently, the central salaries are ₹7 crore (A+), ₹5 crore (A), ₹3 crore (B), and ₹1 crore (C).

First AGM After New Executive Body

Other matters to be discussed include changes to the payment of umpires and match referees, as well as updates on the board's digital assets. This will be the first AGM of the Apex Council after the change in BCCI officials. Mithun Manhas became the chairman of the board in September, and Raghuram Bhatt was appointed treasurer, while Devjit Saikia and Prabhtej Singh Bhatia were appointed secretary and joint secretary, respectively. In the previous board elections, Jaydev Shah, president of the Saurashtra Cricket Association, also joined the board as a councillor.
