The highly anticipated third installment of the Avatar franchise, Avatar 3, has finally been released in theaters, and it appears to have had a spectacular opening at the box office. This comes as no surprise, as James Cameron is known for his high-quality films that draw in audiences, as the previous films in the series have also demonstrated.

Avatar 3 has already proved it can pull huge audiences into theaters, especially those formats that command a higher price. On top of that, the film was very well-anticipated by its fandom due to not having any new content in several years.

Initial projections about the first day of box-office collections suggest that Avatar 3 has managed to take ₹20 crore net amongst all the languages in the country. This opening could be counted amongst the biggest openings of Hollywood films in the recent past.

Though these numbers are also tentative, there is no doubt that the current box office performance of Avatar 3 has been rising.

One of the biggest highlights of Avatar 3: Fire and Ash

This led to considerably higher occupancy levels compared to the other films that were released at the same time, with English Language IMAX 3D screens registering an average occupancy of around 70% and higher in the evening shows, particularly in key metropolitan cities.

For example, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Kochi saw multiple shows in IMAX and 4DX movie theaters, with some shows being almost completely sold out, particularly during evening and night screenings. Chennai, in particular, witnessed a tremendous response in IMAX 3D movie theaters, indicating strong word-of-mouth publicity among the urban population.

Avatar 3: In the world of Hindi cinema

The Hindi dubbed version of 'Avatar 3' has exceeded our expectations in both the number of screenings and ticket sales across various high-end formats, including '4DX 3D'. Consequently, we are seeing very high occupancy rates for the scheduled Hindi showtimes, with over 85% occupancy across the board, demonstrating that the film's stunning visuals are resonating with audiences beyond the English-speaking market.

The trend among the family and youth audiences indicates that they too want to be treated to the same visual feast offered by Cameron and are thus choosing to view these movies in the immersive formats. The traditional or conventional formats like 2D and standard 3D have, however, displayed a totally contrasting trend when it comes to the level of occupancy. The level of occupancy in this case has, for the major part of the day, remained low when it comes to the global audiences, especially when it comes to the matinee shows.

Avatar 3: In the Telugu and Tamil Film Industries

The regional language releases, like Telugu and Tamil, have had a mixed performance, which is, however, positive. The 3D shows in the Telugu cities like Hyderabad, Vijayawada, and Warangal have reported good attendance, especially for the night shows. The Tamil 3D shows reported improved occupancy in the evenings, especially at Chennai and Puducherry. The trend indicates that the numbers will increase during the weekend as the awareness about the movie spreads.

In terms of box office, Avatar 3 had an incredible opening at the box office in India. The opening collection of ₹20 crore, mainly from the higher formats, indicates that the opening weekend will be good. The movie will experience substantial growth during the next two days, which will take the opening figures to an impressive level, provided the movie continues to perform in the same manner.

Avatar 3 has had a phenomenal start at the box office. The first-day collection and occupancy data suggest that there is still considerable interest in the franchise, especially in immersive formats. While the real test will be its performance over time, the initial signs are encouraging. As the weekend progresses, everyone will be watching to see how far Avatar: Fire and Ash can go and whether it can once again make box office history, just like its predecessors.
