Another Hindu Man Shot Dead In Bangladesh ! Fifth Such Incident In Three Weeks

According to local media, an unidentified attacker shot and killed Hindu businessman who was also the acting editor of publication on Monday in the Jessore area of Bangladesh.

According to Bangla daily Prothom Alo, the victim was 38-year-old Rana Pratap Bairagi, who lived in Arua village in Keshabpur upazila of Jessore district in the Khulna Division.

The death occurred in the context of numerous murders against Hindus in the Muslim-majority nation; however, it was not immediately apparent if there was communal component.According to the article, Bairagi was the acting editor of the Narail-based newspaper "Dainik BD Khabar" and owned an ice business in Kopaliya Bazar, Monirampur.

What Was The Reason for the Shot and Murder

  • The bdnews24 news outlet quoted Additional Police Superintendent Abul Basar as adding that the incident happened near Kapalia Bazar at approximately 5:45 p.m.
  • Prothom Alo stated that three men on motorcycle called Bairagi out of his ice factory and drove him to an alley in front of the Kapalia Clinic and Diagnostic Center, which is situated on the western side of Kapalia Bazar, according to police and locals.Before leaving the area, the attackers shot him in the head at close range.

Police On The Investigation

According to the police, an inquiry has been started to find the culprits.Additionally, they stated that two police stations had four cases filed against the deceased, though specifics were not immediately known.

  • Earlier on December 18, mob in Mymensingh city lynched 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das and burned his body on fire due to accusations of blasphemy.
  • In another incident, unidentified men set fire to the home of Qatar expatriate workers Shukh Shil and Anil Shil in the Raojan area on the outskirts of Chattogram on December 23. The residents, however, managed to escape unharmed.

Seven Arrested In Mob Lynching Of Hindu Men

  • The interim administration declared on Saturday (December 20, 2025) that seven individuals had been detained in relation to the lynching of Hindu man in Bangladesh.
  • On Thursday, mob in Mymensingh city lynched 25-year-old Dipu Chandra Das to death and burnt his body on fire due to accusations of blasphemy.
  • The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has detained seven people as suspects in the case, according to statement released on by the temporary administration under Chief Adviser Muhhamad Yunus.

The ages of those detained range from 19 to 46, and the arrests were made during operations at several places, it stated.According to the police, Mr. Das, a factory worker, was first beaten up by a mob outside the factory over blasphemy allegations and hanged from a tree. The crowd then left the body of the deceased on the side of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway and set it on fire.

The police recovered the body and sent it to the Mymensingh Medical College morgue for autopsy. The interim government on Friday condemned the lynching, saying there is no space for such violence in the new Bangladesh on Hindus.

"The perpetrators of this heinous crime will not be spared," it added. The Hindu population in Bangladesh has been affected by a series of incidents against minority communities in the country after the ouster of then-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in August last year.
