Last year, Apple showed off the Apple Watch Series 8 at its Far Out event alongside the iPhone 14 series.
There are now reports that the tech giant is working on the upcoming Apple Watch X, which raises the possibility that they may skip the Apple Watch 9, just like they skipped the iPhone 9 series to bring out the iPhone X.

This would mean that the original Apple Watch would have been released 6 years ago in 2014.
A French website, iPhoneSoft, has reported that Apple is likely to forgo the Apple Watch Series 9 name and instead call their next generation of smartwatches Apple Watch X.
This would be similar to how the tech giant released the iPhone X for the 10th anniversary of the iPhone in 2017.

Apple Watch to be Labelled as the Apple Watch X
The portal has cited a source from Apple supplier Luxshare who said that the next Apple Watch will not be labelled as the Apple Watch 9, but as the Apple Watch X.
The report indicated that Apple’s newest watchOS 10 operating system is anticipated to be released this year, and the new Apple Watch model is expected to be launched as well.
This follows the release of the original Apple Watch in September 2014, which was unveiled at the same press event as the iPhone 6.
The new Apple Watch is predicted to have a flatter shape, different casing styles, and fresh straps, and could also include a blood glucose monitor and a blood alcohol sensor.
Additionally, the current Apple Watch models offer heart rate tracking, fall detection, SOS calling, a period monitor, and more.
Apple is reportedly in the process of adding microLED displays to its forthcoming wearables.
Apple Watch Ultra
It is speculated that the first device to boast the new technology will be the upcoming Apple Watch Ultra, which is expected to be released in 2024.
Moreover, Apple is likely to apply this enhanced display technology to all its products, such as the iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
