Apple is reportedly aiming to lessen its reliance on other companies such as Samsung Electronics and LG by introducing its own custom displays in its mobile devices starting 2024.

According to Bloomberg News, citing people with knowledge of the matter, the company is looking to begin with the highest-end Apple Watches by the end of 2021, and eventually extend the use of these displays to other devices, including the iPhone.

Apple didn’t give any response to Reuters’ inquiry; Samsung Display, a division of Samsung Electronics, and LG Display refused to make any remarks.
The article further mentioned that the screens will upgrade the existing OLED standard to a technology known as microLED.

Bloomberg News reported on Monday that Apple intends to switch Broadcom chips in its devices to an internal design in 2025.

Apple has been striving to reduce its dependence on other semiconductor producers, transitioning to its own brand of processors for the most recent Mac computers, instead of Intel’s.
