Apple AirTag 2: Apple has introduced the second-generation AirTag. The company launched this new version nearly five years after the release of the first AirTag. The new AirTag comes with improved hardware, making it easier and more accurate to find lost items. It features a new Ultra Wideband chip, which supports Precision Finding over a greater distance than before. Additionally, the speaker volume has been increased, although the battery and design remain largely the same.

Apple AirTag 2: Improved Tracking Features

The new AirTag retains the same compact design as its predecessor but incorporates several significant improvements. It features a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, which is claimed to increase the range of Precision Finding by approximately 50 percent. This will allow users to locate their lost items with greater accuracy.

How does AirTag work?

The new AirTag works similarly to the first generation, primarily through Apple's Find My app. This app is used across Apple devices such as iPhones, iPads, and Macs. The AirTag connects to Apple's large Find My network via Bluetooth.

When a lost AirTag comes into proximity with another Apple device, it automatically updates its location, allowing its owner to find it. However, there have been some controversies surrounding AirTags, particularly regarding stalking concerns. Apple maintains that AirTags are designed for tracking belongings, not people.

The Bluetooth chip has also been upgraded, resulting in improved connectivity range. According to Apple, Precision Finding can now also be used with Apple Watch Series 9 or later models and Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later variants.

Louder Speaker

The second-generation AirTag features a new internal design and an improved speaker. The company claims that its speaker is 50 percent louder than the previous AirTag. This means users will be able to hear the AirTag's sound from approximately twice the distance.

Location Sharing and Privacy

The AirTag also works with the iPhone's Share Item Location feature. This allows users to temporarily share the location of their belongings with a trusted third party, such as an airline. Apple claims that location data remains completely secure and no location history is stored on the AirTag.

Battery and Other Features

The new AirTag is powered by a CR2032 coin cell battery and, according to the company, offers more than a year of battery life. It has an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance. To use it, an iPhone running iOS 26 or later or an iPad running iPadOS 26 or later is required.

New Black Unity Apple Watch Band Also Launched

Design and Price

This new Apple Watch band uses the colors of the Pan-African flag. It is made using recycled polyester yarn and ultra-thin silicone threads with a special braided technique.

Price and Availability in India

In India, the second-generation AirTag is priced at ₹3,790 for a single unit. This makes the AirTag the company's most affordable gadget. A pack of four AirTags is priced at ₹12,900. Customers will also get free engraving when purchasing from the Apple website and the Apple Store app.
