Nayanthara's Annapoorani Removed From Netflix After Police Complaint, Makers Apologise

Activists of two right-wing outfits have filed separate complaints here against actor Nayanthara and others associated with her newly-released film Annapoorani, alleging that certain scenes in it hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus, police said on Thursday.

The complaints allege that the film makes controversial remarks about Lord Ram and also promotes 'love jihad', they said. Annapoorani was recently released on Netflix and has now been pulled from the site.

One more complaint was recorded at the Lokmanya Tilak Marg police headquarters in South Mumbai by Ramesh Solanki, the pioneer behind Hindu IT Cell, an authority said. As indicated by his protest, the film Annapooranibelittles Ruler Smash and harms the strict feelings of Hindus was deliberately delivered.

Why Hindus Groups Are Opposing Nayanthara's Annapoorani?

  • The complaint also cited a few scenes in the movie, which he says hurt the religious sentiments.
  • The complaint mentions the last scene of the film which shows a temple priest's daughter, played by Nayanthara, offering namaz wearing 'hijab' before making biryani.
  • In another scene, Farhaan, the friend of the character played by Nayanthara, tells her Bhagwan Shri Ramand Maa Sita had also consumed meat.
  • It mentions one more scene in which Nayanthara doesn't go to the temple, but goes to Farhaan's place for 'iftaari'.

Film Pulled Off From Netflix

Movie was released in theatres on December 1 and began streaming on Netflix on December 29. Days after its debut on the platform, the film was pulled off after an FIR was filed against the makers by a man named Ramesh Solanki.

Netflixremoved Annapoorani from its platform on January 10. Zee Studios issued an apology to Vishwa Hindu Parishad stating that the film will be removed from the platform until it’s edited to remove the objectionable content.
