Family members and Education-

Ayman al- Zawahiri was al-Qaeda chief; he became chief of al-Qaeda after the death of Bin laden in 2011 by US forces.

al-Zawahiri was also involved in the 9/11 attacks and placed on the 22 most wanted terrorist lists announced by the US govt.

Zawahiri was born in Egypt’s capital, Cairo on 19 June 1951 and came from a highly educated family.

His father was a Pharmacology professor in Cairo University’s medical school. His grandfather was Rabia al-Zawahiri a grand imam of al-Azhar, the centre of Sunni Islamic Learning in the Middle East. His uncle was the first secretary-general of the Arab League.

Zawahiri himself learned medicine and completed his master’s degree in surgery from Cairo University’s Medical School in 1978.

al-Zawahiri was drawn towards the radical Islamist groups and joined the Egyptian Islamic Jihad group, whose purpose was to overthrow the current Egypt govt. and establishes an Islamic state. In 1981 he was sentenced to three years in prison because of his involvement in Egyptian president Anwar Sadat’s killing.

After his release in 1985, he went to Afghanistan where he joined hands with al-Qaeda chief Bin Laden.

After leaving Afghanistan, the US warned the Taliban that their rule will not allow terrorist activity on the soil of Afghanistan.

But in April this year, CIA Officers told the President that they had found al-Qaeda chief activity in the Sherpur near Kabul.

CIA intelligence began an operation and checked the activities of Zawahiri, although not a single US spy was there in Afghanistan, they used different intelligence methods.

They observed that Zawahiri daily appeared on his house balcony after the Morning Prayer.

CIA planned the attack carefully and used a hellfire R9X missile to avoid any other casualties because he was living in a crowded area.

At 6:18 local time in the morning, two hellfire missiles were fired by a drone and struck the balcony of his house, where he was standing and killed him.

US President Biden Live Television address about death of al-Qaeda Chief-

After the strike, US President Biden came live on television and addresses the US citizens from the Blue Room Balcony of the White House.

He said in his address that Justice has been delivered and it will bring closure to the families of the victims of the 9/11 attacks.

US caution its citizens for travelling abroad

Al- Zawahiri’s death brings anger among the other terror groups linked to al-Qaeda. The US urged their citizens, who are living or travelling abroad to stay more cautious and alert.

They suspect that these terror groups will attack the US citizen, and their embassies abroad.

The Department of State released the worldwide caution and added that US citizens are strongly encouraged to maintain a “high level of vigilance and practice good situational awareness” when travelling abroad.
