Toyota has finally made an electric plunge in India, and it was long overdue. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV has been unveiled and it is the first mass-market electric SUV of Toyota for Indian buyers.
Based on the Maruti e Vitara, this new EV will come with the reliability badge of Toyota, a more stylish appearance, and a clever battery rental scheme that may render this EV ownership much less painful to the wallet.
Let’s get the facts straight first, then I’ll tell you why this EV might quietly become Toyota’s most important India launch in years.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV exterior design
In case the Maruti e Vitara seems a bit too rugged for your taste, the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV will probably appeal to you. Toyota has gone for a smoother and more urban-friendly design.
On the front, it has the usual EV treatment, closed off grille, well-sculpted bumper, and pixel monopod LED headlights with pixel-style DRLs. They appear aggressive without making an effort, which I genuinely appreciate.

On the side, the curvy silhouette, thick black cladding and the 18-inch aero-style dual-tone alloy wheels provide it with proper SUV presence. Toyota has skipped roof rails entirely, which strangely gives the EV a more rounded and premium appearance.
At the rear, the full-width LED light bar with pixel detailing is the visual highlight. It is modern, neat and clearly targeted to the urban buyers rather than hardcore SUV lovers.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV interior
Step inside the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV and the recognisability kicks in, particularly if you have seen the e Vitara. The black-and-tan dual-tone cabin is spacious and premium without being flashy.
You have a two-spoke leatherette steering wheel, soft-touch in the rest of the dashboard and a wide dual-screen system that dominates the layout. Toyota has avoided the urge to turn everything into touch controls. Physical buttons are still here, and that alone deserves applause.
Rear-seat space is decent, though not class-leading. The raised floor affects underthigh support slightly, and taller passengers may find headroom a bit tight. It is acceptable, but not perfect.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV Features
Toyota hasn’t overloaded the feature list, but the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV covers all the important bases:
- 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system
- 10.25-inch digital driver display
- Ventilated front seats
- 10-way powered driver’s seat
- Fixed glass roof
- Wireless charging and multiple USB-C ports
No flashy gimmicks here, just sensible, daily-use features that actually matter in Indian conditions.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV Safety Package
Safety is where Toyota plays its strongest card. The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV comes with:
- 7 airbags
- All-wheel disc brakes
- Level-2 ADAS (lane assist, adaptive cruise, AEB, high-beam assist)
- 360-degree camera
- TPMS, ESC, AVAS, front and rear parking sensors
While it hasn’t been crash-tested yet, expectations are high. The Maruti e Vitara already has a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, and this Toyota should match it.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV Battery and Range
The Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella EV is offered with two battery options:
| Battery | Power | Torque | Claimed Range |
| 49 kWh | 144 PS | 189 Nm | Up to 440 km |
| 61 kWh | 174 PS | 189 Nm | Up to 543 km |
Both versions use a front-wheel-drive, single-motor setup. The global AWD version isn’t coming to India and that’s fine for most buyers.
Toyota is also offering an 8-year battery warranty, which adds serious peace of mind.

Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella Price and Launch Details
It is expected that the Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella will launch in February 2026, and it will be priced at approximately Rs 18-20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will adopt Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE 6 and even its sibling, the Maruti e Vitara.

Is it revolutionary? No.
Is it sensible, well-packaged, and perfectly timed? Absolutely.
And sometimes, that’s exactly what the Indian EV market needs.
