World Records First Confirmed Death From Omicron, UK Declares ‘Emergency’

Although the world is scared after the outbreak of a new covid variant, the UK is adding more to it. Monday on 13th December, the country reported the world’s first confirmed death from the Omicron variant. England is now covered with 40% of infection and this would multifold if proper measures are not taken, warns PM Boris Johnson.

This has indicated that even though the variant is less lethal, it can still cause deaths. It is scary because as per the results of a modeling study, the UK may report 75,000 deaths by April 2022 estimate the researchers.omicron

UK Government can see this coming as more than 3000 cases of Omicron are already reported. To prevent the tidal wave hitting the country harder, Boris Johnson has declared an emergency and urged everyone to take booster shots.

The vaccination process has now gained speed from this week following which the booking website has crashed down.

This is not just a challenging situation for the UK as Omicron cases in India have now reached 38. In the last 24 hours, over 300 people have died due to covid but no death from Omicron is recorded. Around 7774 new cases have been identified. Andhra Pradesh and Chandigarh have joined the list of states with omicron cases where Maharashtra has again topped the list.

So far, the new covid variant is found in Gujarat, Delhi, and Rajasthan after first being reported in Karnataka.
