“Speaking in Hindi is nothing to be ashamed of. Let us speak in Hindi and promote our language.”

Today 10th January celebrated as World Hindi Day. Its primary purpose is to unite Hindi-speaking people all over the world and tell its importance.

World Hindi Day is different from Hindi diwas, which was celebrated on 14th September.

On this occasion, the Ministry of External Affairs organizes several events around the world to spread more knowledge about Hindi.

Historical Significance of World Hindi Day 2023

World Hindi Day 2023 is celebrated on 10th January is to mark the day when Hindi first was spoken in the United Nations General Assembly in 1949.

In 1975 then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi formed World Hindi Conference for bringing together Hindi scholars, writers, and laureates who have contributed to the development of the national language and appreciate their contributions.

But in 2006 then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh officially recognise this day as World Hindi Day.

Difference between Hindi Diwas and World Hindi Day

 As we know that World Hindi Day was celebrated on 10 January on an international level.

Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 14th September. On 14 September 1946, the Hindi language was accepted as India’s official language by Constituent Assembly.

Then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru on parliament declared 14 September as Hindi Diwas.

The first official National Hindi Diwas was celebrated on 14 September 1953.
