Tennis sensation, Sania Mirza celebrates her 33rd birthday today and on her special day let’s get to know how she, single-handedly put India on the Tennis map of the world!
From a small-town Muslim family to being the biggest Tennis sensation of the country, her journey in so is nothing short of an inspiring and full of awe roller-coaster.
Let’s get to know her a little better:
1. She started playing tennis at the age of six and her first-ever coach was CK Bhupati, Mahesh Bhupati’s father. The same Mahesh Bhupati with whom she went on to win Australian Open 2009 Mixed Doubles!

2. Behind every successful child, there’s a father who sacrificed his career and dreams to nourish that of his kid’s. Sania Mirza’s father almost gave up his career in journalism when he took over her coaching when she was 12 years old. Little did he know at that time that kid would grow up to be the tennis icon of the country.

3. Payback’s a real thing. If you don’t believe me, here’s the story of Sania and Adidas! Adidas sponsored her training in the initial days, later, when she became all-famous, she was roped in as Adidas’s brand ambassador!

4. Many of you might not know, Sania is the first Indian to have won a Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) title and she’s also the highest-ranked Indian tennis player from 2003-2013.
5. There have been a lot of controversies and debates when Sania married a Pakistani cricketer, Shoaib Malik, like, for which country she’s gonna play now? Which cricket team will she support? Which country would her child gonna play for? And much more such stupidity came her way, which she brushed away with utter grace!
Now, just so you know, neither India nor Pakistan, Sania lives with her husband in Dubai.
