Toll tax is one of the extra burdens on people who frequently travel from one city to other via Road. And this is not something they pay just once, as per toll tax rules passengers have to pay money every time for using an expressway or highway.

But there are a few people who are exempted from toll tax. They can easily cross the highways and travel between cities.

Government has increased the categories of people who are exempted from toll tax. Earlier, the number was only 9, now it rose to 25 that include:

• President of India
• Vice-President of India
• Prime Minister Of India
• Governors
• Chief Justice Of India
• House Speaker
• Cabinet Ministers and Chief Ministers
• Supreme Court Judge
• Lieutenant Governor
• Minister of State of the Union
• Chief of Staff
• Chairman of Legislative Council and Speaker of Legislative assemble
• Chief Justice of High Court
• MPs
• Army commander
• Chief secretary of state
• Secretary of Council of states, house of people, Government of India
• Personalities awarded with Param Vir Chakra, Ashok Chakra, Shaurya Chakra, Kriti Chakra

In the list people working in Army, Air force, paramilitary forces and police is also included. Other than these, foreign dignitaries who come India for a visit are also exempted. NHAI’s vehicles used for inspection, survey, and maintenance of highways do not fall in the tax category. Ambulance, a funeral van, and especially designed mechanical vehicles of people with disability is also free from toll tax.

What Is Toll-Tax Amount For Different Vehicles?

According to the toll tax rules, the amount of tax will vary as per the vehicle for example, truck or bus drivers pay around 350 rupees as this indirect tax on their single journey.

On the other hand, the amount is only 105 rupees for vehicles falling under low weight category. The charges are not applicable to two-wheelers and bikes.
