Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a new recruitment scheme for strengthening the Indian Army recently. Agneepath/Agnipath scheme or Yojana will add more than 40 thousand soldiers to all three forces- Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air force.

What is Agneepath Scheme/Yojana?

The scheme will recruit candidates across India for the deployment in Army on a short-term basis i.e. 4 years. They will get proper training during this period and becomo Agniveers. After training, these agniveers will get permanent inclusion in the army for 15 years.
However, only 25 percent of the total selected candidates will become Junior Commissoned officers in all the departments. Rest 75% will get a leave and Seva nidhi amount of Rs 11.71 lakh which is tax free.

Eligibility Criteria of Agneepath Scheme

The scheme is very beneficial for both, those seeking a dream to join Indian army as well as the Indian Army forces. Moreover, it will add strength to the forces with additional well-trained soldiers.
But, the applicants should have necessary educational qualifications to become eligible. Medical eligibility is also a criteria to hire youthful and dynamic candidates.
Who is Eligible for Agneepath Scheme?
Those between 17.5 and 21 years of age who meet the following educational qualifications can become the Agniveer:

Benefits of Scheme

- Monthly salary of Rs 30000/- which will increase to Rs 40000 at the end of 4th year
- EPF/PPF facility
- Risk and Hardship, Dress and Travel allowance facilities
- Full pay of non-service period with interest after service
- Non contributory life insurance cover of Rs 48 lakh during their services in the Indian Army
- A skill certificate after completion of training
However, Agniveers will not receive any pension after the end of service. Agnipath scheme is focused on giving the best to Indian Army whilst motivating number of young people to serve the nation.
