Karnataka has recorded its first case of Zika virus . A five-year-old girl from Raichur tested positive for the virus

According to the lab report from Pune, the girl tested positive for the Zika virus and is advised to take precautionary measures.

This is the first confirmed case in Karnataka. It came to light when the serum was subjected to Dengue and Chikungunya tests.

The Zika virus is a disease which is transmitted through the bite of an infected Aedes mosquito

The virus was first identified in Uganda in 1947

The symptoms are mostly mild in case of Zika virus with 1 in 5 people exhibiting signs of illness

The most common symptoms of Zika virus are Fever,Rash,Joint pain, Inflamed eyes,Body Ache(specially headache)

Zika Virus Infection is found to be a dangerous disease among pregnant women , especially for foetuses

The infection can cause microcephaly (a brain disability condition) or other conditions called congenital Zika syndrome.
