No MMA fan thought that Alexander Volkanovski would defend Islam’s takedowns and handle the ground game so efficiently.
The fight was so close that the striking exchanges clipped both the fighters at some moments during the entire fight.
UFC 284 : In the 5th and final round, as the clock ticked around the four-minute mark, Volkanovski landed a punch that visibly rocked Makhachev and sent him to the ground.
Volkanovski rained down ground-and-pound until the final bell. This made crowd exploded and they gave standing ovation to Alexander Volkanovski.

Islam Makhachev was announced as the winner of the fight. Makhachev extends his winning streak to 12. The defeat marks Volkanovski’s first loss in the UFC and his first overall since May 2013.
