Triumph Motorcycle India has launched the updated Speed Twin 1200 for the Indian market. The company recently revealed the bike. It is available in 2 variants – Standard and RS. The bike starts at Rs 12.75 lakh and comes with cornering ABS and traction control for safety along with road and rain riding modes.
The new Triumph Speed Twin 1200 now has a LED headlight like the Speedmaster, new engine casing and suspension with errated shock absorbers at the rear instead of RSU and a thin exhaust muffler. The standard variant will be available in three colours (white, red and silver), while the RS will be available in two colour options (black and orange).
Triumph Speed Twin 1200 Engine power
Both the Speed Twin 1200 and RS are powered by the same liquid-cooled, 1,200cc parallel-twin engine as before. But this motor now has a new cam, sportier tune and a higher redline of 8,000 rpm. It is now rated at 105 hp at 7,750 rpm and a torque output of 112 Nm at 4,250 rpm. Power has increased by 5 hp and is positioned 500 rpm later in the rev band. This is the same output as the earlier Thruxton.
Both models come with a slip-and-assist clutch-controlled 6-speed gearbox. But only the RS gets a bi-directional quickshifter. This is the first Triumph neo-retro model with this feature. And this unit cannot be fitted to the standard 1200 as it has different footpeg placement.
Triumph Speed Twin 1200 Features
The instrumentation on the Speed Twin 1200 model has also changed. It gets twin digi-analogue dials, which are LCD/TFT units carried over from the Trident 660. It is seen on most Triumph models these days, including the recently launched Speed Twin 900. The switchgear is also the same on both Speed Twin models. A USB-C charging port is standard.
Triumph Speed Twin 1200 Breking System
The base 1200 has relatively more relaxed ergonomics than the higher-spec RS, with lower bars and more rearset footpegs. The RS is the higher-spec variant of the two, getting fully adjustable Marzocchi forks and Ohlins shock absorbers. There are also Brembo Stylema calipers with 320mm discs. The RS variant rides on the very sticky Metzeler Racetec RR rubber.
Cycle parts on the base Speed Twin 1200 are simpler than those on the RS. Suspension is handled by a non-adjustable 43mm fork and twin shock absorbers. Both are from Marzocchi. Braking is handled by Triumph-branded radial 4-piston calipers. Those mount on dual 320mm discs down low. And the Standard Speed runs on twin Metzeler M9RR rubber.
Triumph Speed Twin 1200 Price
