In recent years, the South Indian industry has made major advances, and this was once again in evidence in 2022 when Allu Arjun’s Pushpa, SS Rajamouli’s RRR, Yash’s KGF 2 and Superstar Kamal Haasan’s Vikram proved to be major successes, not just in the South Indian region but across the world.
The South Indian industry significantly outstripped Bollywood, with four films grossing 400 crores (RRR, KGF-2, Vikram, and Ponniyin Selvan: Part One) compared to just one for Bollywood.
This trend looks set to continue into the coming year, with a number of eagerly awaited South Indian films due for release.

Kollywood and Tollywood movies have made a grand start in 2023 with Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu and Ajith’s Thunivu both crossing the 100 crore mark at the box office. Building on the success of these releases,
Chiranjeevi’s Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy have also become major box office hits. The south Indian film industry is looking to end the year on a high note with several highly anticipated movies slated for release in the coming months.
Many highly anticipated South Indian films set for 2023
1. Pushpa The Rule (Pushpa 2)
Pushpa 2, starring Allu Arju and Rashmika Mandanna and directed by Sukumar, is slated to be released between July and September 2023.
Pushpa: The Rise was an absolute sensation among audiences, breaking box office records across both the South and North.
People were won over by Pushpa’s dialogues, songs and Allu Arjun’s swagger, and now the sequel is set to be released in 2023 – making it one of the most anticipated films of the year.

2. Salaar
The movie, starring Prabhas, Shruti Haasan, and Jagapathi Babu, and directed by Prashanth Neel, will be released on September 28, 2023.
After the enormous success of KGF, director Prashanth Neel is teaming up with Bahubali star Prabhas for an extravagant movie.
It is exciting to witness what this powerful duo will bring to the table with Salaar, an action-packed thriller.
Reportedly, the storyline will center around a gang leader who eliminates other gangs to fulfill a promise he made to his companion.

3. Ponniyin Selvan: Part 2 (PS 2)
The movie, directed by Mani Ratnam, starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Karthi, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, is scheduled to be released in April 2023.

Kamal Haasan and Sukanya will appear in the movie set to come out in 2023, directed by Shankar.
Kamal Haasan, known as Ulganayagan, achieved box office success with Vikram last year and is looking to make a comeback in 2023 with the vigilante action film “Indian 2”, a sequel to his 1996 hit, Indian. Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Rakul Preet Singh, Gulshan Grover, and Bobby Simha are all part of the cast for the movie.

5. Jailer
