The boy, Jacob Stevens, died after nearly a week on a ventilator. His relatives disclosed that in an effort to have hallucinations, he had taken 12 to 14 pills of an over-the-counter antihistamine.

Jacob’s father, Justin Stevens, revealed to ABC6 that he was being recorded by his son and his pals as he tried the social media challenge. Jacob’s body started to tremble during the event.

The young man was promptly taken to the hospital, where he spent the next six days on a ventilator until passing away. Jacob’s dad called it the “worst day of his life.”

“No brain scan, there was nothing there,” the distraught father added. They told us that we could keep him on the vent and that he could lie there, but they warned that he would never open his eyes, breathe normally, smile, walk, or speak.

Because of the sad incident that involved Jacob, his family is warning other parents to be cautious about the “Benadryl Challenge” and to keep a close eye on their kids’ online behavior in order to prevent such incidents in the future. Jacob’s father has also taken the initiative to address local officials to ask them to explore enacting rules like age limitations.
