- TikTok is banned by Federal Law in the USA
- Trump has assured that the Federal ban will be delayed for 90 days
TikTok was banned in the USA due to security reasons after a Federal law proposed a ban, but USA President Donald Trump’s announcement came as a sigh of relief for the app service providers and users. After being blocked on Saturday, its services were restored immediately on Sunday.
It will restore its services after the initial ban on TikTok in the USA. It is a joyous moment for the 170 million users of the USA. Many Tiktokers feel melancholy when they do not open their account on Saturday due to a ban by federal law.
But why Federal Law Department decide to ban TikTok and why was President Trump trying to delay the ban for 90 days?
Why did The Supreme Court of the USA ban TikTok?
Biden govt. and Republicans to consider the TikTok a threat to National security. In its first term, President Trump cited a Chinese app as a threat to the USA security.
Biden govt. pass the law last year to ban TikTok from the USA. US Supreme Court last week upheld the ban citing National Security Risks from the use of the Chinese app, they will restore its services if it divests it from its main owner or foreign adversary and sells it to the US owner.
Tik Tok owner company ByteDance challenged it to the court but they lost it. On Saturday 19th January Tik Tok suddenly stopped all of its services.
USA President Donald Trump Posted the Update On Truth Social Media “ Save TikTok”
USA President Donald Trump came as a guardian angel for TikTok at the last moment, when he signed the executive order to delay the federal ban for 90 days. If the Chinese app meets the requirements set by federal law, it will run its app services in the USA in the future.
Trump’s ulterior means in delaying the ban is to broadcast his next oath ceremony inauguration on the app, which has 170 million users in the USA.
It is a sigh of relief for TikTok users when they restore their services on Sunday with a pop-up message to their users “Welcome back! Thanks for your patience and support. As a result of President Trump’s efforts, TikTok is back in the U.S.! You can continue to create, share, and discover all the things you love on TikTok.”
Both Biden and Trump initially wanted to ban the Chinese app from the USA, but Biden after signing the ban executive order during his tenure cited national risk. Biden changed his position on the app and in his statement he said it would not enforce the law leaving that responsibility on Trump.
President Donald Trump said in its statement that his executive order delayed the ban for 90 days before the law enforced the ban on the app until it met the law’s qualified divestiture requirements.
According to the law TikTok parent company Byte Dance sells the app to non-Chinese buyers for USA security purposes. Trump suggested the joint-venture idea for TikTok with the US to own 50 % of the share, and it provides 20% of the cap for foreign adversary owners (TikTok parent company ByteDance).
Even the Trump executive order saved the social media app from the ban for up to 90 days but when the law was enforced, no legal basis helped to lift the ban until they met the criteria set by the federal law.
Conclusion
TikTok ban upset 170 million users in the USA, so many small businesses are dependent on that app. Many influencers are connected to their audience by selling generic content on beauty, lifestyle, health, and tech. Many people in the USA are not addicted to Instagram. The app has massive users all over the globe, and many content creators outside the USA have high followers from the US itself. USA federal authority wanted to protect national security first, if it is banned from the USA many users’ life goes upside down as their whole life depends on this app, where they find digital connections from people outside the USA, they share their thoughts with them and economically some content creators are dependent on this app.
Although TikTok service providers and owners are working with the US govt. to navigate the issue but the future of the app is still not bright, it depends only on the US and ByteDance.
