This Mother’s Day be Considerate of  the 7 Mothers According to Vedic Texts

Prabhavshali or Balwan, a powerful role is played by the mother. According to Hindu mythological texts mothers play a superior role in our lives. She plays a divine role. But are you aware that according to ancient Hindu Vedic beliefs, a person has seven kind of mothers. So this Mother’s Day lets pay homage to these mothers and understand their importance.

Each mother fulfills a great role in our life, so why not celebrate this sacred glory on Mother’s day and make our mothers feel special.

“Saptamatrika”(Seven Mothers) according to Hindu culture, it is believed that, “ A group of seven mother-goddesses, each of whom is considered as a Shakti , or female counterpart, of a god. Hence let’s understand the vital importance of these 7 mothers.

1) Adau Mata (Our Biological Mother)

Our biological mother suffers a lot of pain in delivering the child but she fulfills her role in a perfect way, she is the first mentor of a child who teaches values, trains the child and explains about the important qualities. Because of her first blessings only a child creates happiness in its life. She teaches her child about generosity, love, kindness and sacrifices.

2) Guru Patni (Wife of a Teacher)

In ancient times, Education was completed at the home of a Guru or spiritual teacher, children from very young age were sent to Gurukul to complete their education, so the master or guru taught them about Dhanurvidya and mantras but the  motherly love was given to them by the wife of Guru or Guru Patni, children used to identify her with their mothers. She bestowed immense love and devotion towards children.

3) Brahmani (Wife of Brahmana)

He is also similar to Guru. Brahman was more of a philosopher. In primitive times he used to inculcate the respect among children for god. He taught about the powers and prayers of god. This saint taught meditation, read out stories dealing with soul and almighty powers.

Brahmana emphasized on spiritual life and his wife till then took care of children like the way a mother does. Brahmani used to foster the spiritual and sacred qualities in children. She used to sang the hymns of God and narrate the folklores.

4) Raj Patnika (Wife of a King, Queen)

In Satyug King had an indispensable role to play, he used to look after the well-being of the citizen in the most righteous way. Similarly wife of the King, Queen treated every person like her own, she used to advice the king about the policies for the welfare of the kingdom. She is known for her wisdom and influence and took care of the kingdom as a child.

5) Dhenu (The Cow)

Cow plays the crucial role in playing the role of motherhood and in vedic time it carries immense importance. As our mothers give birth to us cows supplies us milk, so its our duty to honour her. Our Gau Mata. In our Hindu culture cows are considered propitious animal. In fact in agricultural activities and villages cows are given utmost respect.

6) Dhatri ( The Nurse)

When we become weak either physically or mentally there is a person who showers extreme care on us and make us fine again, be it anyone a doctor, sister, nanny, nurse. They provide us support during tough times. Hence they are treated as a great mothers. In Mythological or Vedic Literature there are many stories depicting the role of nurses.

7) Prithvi (The Mother Earth)

Earth has a huge role to play in our life. It serves us extensively. It provides us with nature, all the necessities, heals us with its divinity, provide us environment, we are living in its big home where Dharti Mata is protecting us. Hence she is our sublime mother. Let’s pay tribute to her and all our mothers on Mother’s Day.
