A batsman without his favorite bat is nothing but seems like a fish without water. Cricket has been one of the most popular sports in the world. The game which all goes around bat and ball or we can say that are the fundamentals of the game, Cricket.
A bowler’s task is to attack with his line, length, pace, swing, googly, knuckleball, slower one, Yorker, bouncer, and many more while the batsman has a personal feeling attached to his bat. Any batsman in the world will always be keen on the material of the bat; its length, width, weight, and the balance all parameters contributing a perfect bat to each and every batsman.
A batsman never wants his bat to have errors in it. These days batsmen are pretty much aware of the fact on how to keep their weapon in good shape. The difference in the result of match contributes to taking some extra care of bat and that proceeds to have big giants in cricket like MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli. They are the caretakers of their bats; treats them as their own kids. This is not the first time, as Sachin Tendulkar has always talked about the importance of bat and protecting it like anything.
It was time in 2017 when India was playing England in the first ODI in a series of 3 matches that started in Pune. Ahead of the first ODI, Virat Kohli had called repair person of bats named Mahesh Ransubee, who is also called as Chintu to repair his bat. Kohli called Chintu to reduce his bat’s handle. Kohli was so impressed by Chintu’s work that he suggested his name to MS Dhoni, who also wanted to get repair his bat to continue with the same bat.
Mahesh, the guy from Maharashtra gave Dhoni’s bat a curved-bottom look. Mahesh revealed that Dhoni wanted his lower part of the bat to be in curved shape in order to keep his bat safe from the fast yorkers as these Yorkers ball directly hit the bottom of the bat and results in grain-cracking; in short, cracks the bat.
Mahesh said, “I met MS Dhoni during India-England ODI series in Pune. He wanted the bat round at the toe. Usually, cricketers go for the toe which is straight .”
A question which we always wonder is that: “How heavy are the cricket bats used by MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli?” To which Mahesh revealed that Virat Kohli’s bat weighs about 1150 grams while the weight of the bat varies from 1250-1270 grams of MS Dhoni.
Mahesh aka Chintu is a professional man who also repairs bats of Manish Pandey, Ravindra Jadeja, and few more popular names. He was advised to Indian Cricketers by Kedar Jadhav. And now, Ransubhe is a famous name in Maharashtra. He has also shown his talent of bat repairing to English cricketers like Ben Stokes and Joe Root. He mentioned that Rahul Tripathi suggested my name to Ben Stokes; when he saw the bat, he was happy with the work and out of happiness, gave Rs 4500,” said Ransubhe.
Mahesh does not charge single money for repairing bats of Indian cricketers, who fully shows his love and connection with cricket and the reason why he opted this profession.
