What is UTI?
UTI is an infection that affects any part of the urinary tract like the bladder, urethra, kidney, and uterus. It is caused by the entry of bacteria into the urinary tract. Women are more prone to UTIs than men, as their urinary tract is shorter, allowing bacteria to easily reach the bladder.
So whenever it comes to urinary tract infection, it is always important to take precautionary measures. Here are some tips that can help you prevent UTIs during monsoon:-
1- Drink as much water as you can
If you want to avoid UTIs in monsoon, keep drinking enough water or other fluids. Drinking more fluids helps the body flush out bacteria from the urinary tract. So make sure you drink at least 8 glasses of water daily to keep your body hydrated and keep your urinary system clean.
2- Avoid acidic foods and drinks
Consuming acidic foods and drinks like tea, coffee, and soda can irritate your bladder and make you more prone to UTIs.
3- Wear loose-fitting clothes
Wearing tight-fitting clothes restricts air circulation in the genital area, which can lead to bacteria accumulation. So try to wear loose-fitting pants or skirts during the monsoon.
4- Keep yourself clean
After using the toilet, always wipe from front to back to ensure that bacteria from the rectum do not enter the vagina or urethra. Also, don’t forget to bathe regularly and change clothes after coming in contact with dirty water.
5- Urinate frequently
When you don’t urinate enough, bacteria get time to enter the urinary tract and cause infection. So make sure you urinate every 3-4 hours or when your bladder feels full.
6- Take preventive medication
If you are prone to UTIs, you can take preventive medications like cranberry juice or tablets, which help prevent bacterial growth in the urinary tract.
7- Consult a doctor
If you feel any symptoms like a burning sensation or abdominal pain while urinating, visit your doctor immediately for a diagnosis of UTI and possible treatment options.
