Thar Roxx First Body-On-Frame SUV With 5-Star Safety Rating

Mahindra & Mahindra’s Thar Roxx has become the first body-on-frame SUV to get a 5-star rating for both adult-child safety from the Bharat New Car Assessment Program (Bharat NCAP or B NCAP). BNCAP (November 14) released the crash test results of three Mahindra SUV cars. These include Mahindra Thar Rocks, XUV 3XO and XUV 400 EV. All three SUVs have received a 5-star rating for safety in crash tests.

  •  In the frontal impact test conducted at a speed of 64 kph, Thar Rocks got 15.09 points out of 16.
  • In this test, the head, neck and thigh protection of the driver and co-passenger was found to be good.
  • At the same time, the safety of the entire body of the passenger also got strong protection. In this, the protection of the driver’s chest and legs was described as satisfactory.
  •  The SUV was subjected to a side impact test at a speed of 50km h and a pole impact test at a speed of 29 km h, in which it scored 16 out of 16.
  • Protection for the driver’s head, chest, waist and hips was found to be good in side impact and side pole impact tests.
  • Based on the performance of these three tests, Thar Roxx got 31.09 points out of 32 in the adult protection category, which is enough for a 5 star safety rating.
  • With this, Thar Roxx has become the first body on frame SUV to get a 5-star rating from Bharat NCAP.
  • Which is a car with a petrol/diesel engine, which has got such a high score. The MX3 and AX5L variants of the Thar Roxx were crash tested.
  • For this test, dummies of an 18-month-old and a 3-year-old child were installed on the child ISOFIX seat in the Thar Roxx. This off-roader got full score in front and side impact test.
  • In the child protection category, Thar Rocks got 45 points out of 49, which is enough to get a 5 star crash test rating in this category.

The design of the Thar Roxx follows the same traditional boxy profile as the 3-door Thar, but with several changes. The SUV has LED headlights with C-shaped LED DRL and a new body color 6-slat grille. Some silver elements are also given on the front bumper. The fog lights and turn indicators are in the same place as on the 3 door Thar, but their design has been changed.

Talking about the side profile, here you will see two extra doors and the rear door handle has been fitted on the C-pillar. It also has 19-inch dual-tone alloy wheels and a footrest to accommodate the car. The Thar Roxx also has a matte roof, which has a panoramic sunroof. The company has also provided a single-pane sunroof in its lower variants.

Its taillight has been given a C-shape and a tailgate mounted spare wheel is also given at the rear. The special thing is that now a wiper has also been provided on its rear glass, which is not found in 3 door Thar. The rear window and rear door open separately as before.

The cabin of Thar Roxx is based on black and white theme. The seats get white leatherette upholstery and the dashboard gets black leatherette wrapping with contrast copper stitching. It also has a center armrest for the front Passenger. The second row has child ISOFIX anchor seats, foldable center armrest, three-point seatbelts and adjustable headrests for all passengers.

The 5 door Thar has a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.25-inch infotainment system. Apart from this, features like panoramic sunroof, automatic climate control with rear AC vents, ventilated front seat, wireless phone charging and keyless entry with push button start-stop are also provided.

Safety features like 6 airbags (standard), 360 degree camera setup, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) have been provided. Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) is also provided in Thar Roxx, in which functions like lane keep assist and adaptive cruise control are available.

Talking about the engine, Thar Roxx 4×4 will get 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. Its manual variant engine generates 150 bhp and 330 Nm torque. Whereas its 4×4 automatic variant generates 172 bhp and peak torque of 370 Nm. It has Mahindra’s 4XPLOR system, which provides electronic locking differential and terrain mode.

Mahindra Thar Roxx comes with CrawlSmart feature, which allows the driver to maintain a steady low speed without keeping his foot on the accelerator pedal. Apart from this, a new intelligent turn feature has been provided, which is going to be very beneficial during off-roading. This means that you will not only enjoy driving Thar Rocks but will also get safety.
