Although his nickname was teddy but this is not the reason of celebrating Teddy day. The 1902 bear-hunting trip was the reason that portrait a good image of Theodore as he refused to kill the bear during the hunting.

The bear was tied with a tree and was about to get killed by Roosevelt’s assistant. Declaring it as unsportsmanlike behavior, he gave him orders to release the bear instead of killing.

The event was published in The Washington Post as a cartoon picture showing the actual incident of 1902. A toy maker named Morris Michtom saw the cartoon and decided to make a stuff toy. He mixed the nickname of US President and bear to honor him and called the toy as teddy bear.

One of a toy was also gifted to the President. He loved the idea and allowed the toy-makers to use his name as soft toy’s name. He also used the toy as mascot for election. Since then, a new toy has been introduced into the market.

And it’s not just a toy, its love and emotion. People are actually crazy about these stuffed bears and are willing to pay even hundreds of dollars to get the one. There’s even a museum in England dedicating all the teddies out there.

World’s First Teddy Bear Museum

Petersfield, England, Judy Sparrow had opened a Teddy Bear Museum which is first such museum in the world. It had more than 2000 antique bears. Now the museum is completely closed and sold in the auction.

Today, countries like Japan, USA, Russia, S. Korea, and Thailand have also opened such museum to showcase the beautiful, colorful, and unique bears.

How Expensive A Teddy Can Be?

These soft bears are the girl’s best friend but buying one for your bae can cost you more. Because, these simply looking bears have no limit when it comes to price. They can be as cheap as Rs 100 or as expensive as Rs 1 crore. Shocked!

This cinnamon brown toy has silver brooch on his chest and was made in 1908 by Steiff. It was sold for $37,000 in the 2004 auction.

There’s a little space in the body of teddy which can be used to store hot water bottle. However, they didn’t capture buyer’s attention and the company had to stop production. But, these rare bears were sold at very high price in the auction.

The company also made bears to pay tribute to one of the most iconic ship of the world, Titanic. Only 665 such black teddies were manufactured and set for an auction in 2000. One such was sold at $136,000.

Although 10th February is dedicated to the teddies during Valentine week, the official teddy day is celebrated on 15th February 1903.
