Basant Panchami marks the onset of ‘Spring’ season. ‘Basant’ means spring and ‘Panchmi’  which is the fifth day of ‘Maagh’ month in ten Hindu calendars.

Many communities also celebrate Basant Panchami as ‘Saraswati Puja’. Children are introduced to learning on this day as Goddess Saraswati is considered as an idol of Intelligence and Wisdom.
