During the second one-day international (ODI) match between India and South Africa at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, India women’s cricket team opener Smriti Mandhana wrote not one but two sensational records. India hope to win the series against the Laura Wolvaardt-led team with Mandhana’s 136 runs in 120 balls. India won the first match by 143 runs on Sunday at the same venue.

Mandhana scored 117 runs out of 127 in the first game of the series in Bengaluru. He hit 12 boundaries and one six, which helped India win the match by 265 runs. The other batters did not score more than 40. The left-hander continued her incredible form on Wednesday, scoring yet another century and scoring 136 runs in 23 overs to help India recover from going two down for 100.
Become First Indian Women To Score Consecutive Tons
Smriti Mandhana became the first Indian woman cricketer to score consecutive ton scores in the format with her knock, and she came in second overall, behind Sandhya Agarwal, who did so in the 1986 Test series against England.
Matches Record With Mithali Raj
Smriti Mandhana was also able to match Mithali Raj’s record for most centuries scored in a 50-over game thanks to the knock. Both stand tenth in the record-breaking list, with seven centuries, where previous Australia commander Meg Lanning keeps on driving with 15 tons. Generally, among openers, she stands joint third behind New Zealand’s Suzie Bates (12) and Britain’s Tammy Beaumont and Charlotte Edwards (9).
Series Part Of Ongoing ICC Women’s Championship
The ongoing series is currently part of the cycle for the ICC Women’s Championship that runs from 2022 to 2025. Ten teams compete in a one-day competition to determine who will advance to the Women’s Cricket World Cup in 2025. India have previously equipped for the competition by ethicalness of being the host country. Australia are the double cross reigning champs, having won the 2014-16 and 2017-20 cycles.
A one-time Test match in Chennai and a three-game Twenty20 International will follow the series finale against South Africa on June 23 in Bengaluru.
